Fair Trade in Our Stores

One cup at a time Since establishing an alliance in April 2000 with Transfair USA Starbucks has become one of the largest purchasers of Fair Trade Certified™ coffee in North America. Café Estima Blend™, Starbucks' Fair Trade Certified™ blend, is available by the cup and by the bag in whole bean and ground in company-operated stores in North America. A variety of Fair Trade Certified™ coffees, including Café Estima Blend™,are available for Foodservice accounts, including colleges, universities, hotels and restaurants.

Commitment to Fair Trade Starbucks continues to explore ways to work with TransFair USA and incorporate Fair Trade Certified™ coffees as part of our socially-responsible coffee buying. In 2004, Starbucks purchased 4.8 million pounds of Fair Trade Certified™ coffee, more than doubling the amount purchased the previous year. In fiscal 2005, Starbucks expects to purchase 10 million pounds of Fair Trade Certified™ coffee.



 

Coffee of the Week Starbucks company-operated stores in North America feature Café Estima Blend™, a Fair Trade Certified™ coffee, as Coffee of the Week on a quarterly or more-frequent basis. Café Estima Blend™ is always available by the cup upon request in Starbucks North America retail stores.

Beyond the Store Starbucks offers customers a variety of ways to enjoy Fair Trade Certified™ coffee outside of our retail stores, including grocery and club/warehouse stores, Starbucks locations in Barnes & Noble stores and Foodservice accounts.

International Starbucks is licenced to sell Fair Trade Certified™ coffee in 23 countries, including the United States, Canada, Germany, Austria, Spain, Switzerland, England, Scotland, Wales, Australia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, China, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, Cyprus, Greece and France.
