UN Global Compact
Starbucks is a member of the UN Global Compact – an international network of organizations that supports 10 universal principles.
These principles are based on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; the International Labour Organization Declaration of the Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work; and the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development. Membership of the UN Global Compact is made up of corporations, UN agencies, trade unions and nongovernmental organizations.
Starbucks signed the UN Global Compact in June 2004. We consider these principles to be a natural extension of our Mission Statement, which defines our commitment to social and environmental responsibility.
Through our participation in the UN Global Compact, we are continually learning how the company can strengthen existing or develop new internal practices and policies.
Below are the Global Compact’s 10 principles and references to sections in this report that speak to how our priorities are aligned with each principle.
